Earlier this year Microsoft confirmed the cancellation of Scalebound, but have very recently renewed the rights to the IP.
This isn’t only backed up by several industry insiders, but by Justia, a website dedicated to informing the world on trademarks and trademark status. As you can see right here, the movements from October – the cancellation month, to now, are quiet. However this May (2017) the Scalebound brand is once again active.
According to Twitter user XRays_Insider, an insider has disclosed to him that development has resumed but not under the helm of Platinum Games, but rather a studio much closer to Microsoft.
More information is set to be unleashed soon according to XRays_Insider, but one thing he was keen to point out is that development is starting over from scratch. To clear up any confusion, Microsoft do own the rights to the IP, so they can have any developer they see fit, working on it.
Many fans were upset when Scalebound was cancelled, so if this revival proves to be true (it clearly could be), I suspect it will be smiles all around for the Xbox community. Still, with such a struggling past as it is, is there a lot of faith left in the project from a consumers point of view? We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you in the loop.
