The Spectrum Retreat Comes to Console and PC This Year

BAFTA Young Game Designer winner, Dan Smith, and publisher, Ripstone Games, announce that The Spectrum Retreat, the upcoming first-person narrative puzzler, is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC this year.

Having won the BAFTA Young Game Designers Award (YGD) 2016 for the prototype when he was only 18 years old, Dan Smith has subsequently developed the game with the support of Ripstone, building an intriguing narrative around the intuitive first-person puzzle action. Players must explore the pristine and uncanny hotel, The Penrose, solving its ingenious colour-coded puzzles and discovering the reasons behind their seemingly never-ending stay.

The Spectrum Retreat takes place in the near future at The Penrose hotel, a peaceful yet unsettling refuge from the outside world. As a valued guest, your existence is embedded into the corridors and guest rooms of The Penrose. Through exploration of the striking art-deco hotel you will begin to uncover the mysteries of both The Penrose and the uncertainties surrounding your current stay.

Your desire to unearth the truth is obstructed by an array of colour coded first-person puzzles, mind-bending physics challenges and the growing fear of exposing your true intentions. Check out the new trailer at the head of this post.

New Patch Released for Monster Hunter: World

Patch update for Xbox One is now live (2.01 – PS4) in Monster Hunter: World. The update is only a small one, however, it does fix a few issues that have been bugging players for a small while now. Capcom’s Yuri Araujo states that:

In Update Ver. 2.00 (PS4), (Xbox One), a balance update was done to the bow’s Dragon Piercer attack to fix a bug where you could shoot past the attack’s angle limitations. However due to this update, when the target is lined up with the reticle at a very fast speed and the Dragon Piercer fires, it was discovered that the player may not be able to face in the direction of the reticle. This has been fixed so that even if the player is aiming at a target quickly in a direction they are not facing, the reticle will still be able to aim in that direction. (Please note that during Dragon Piercer, if the reticle is aimed at an area outside of the allowed range, the attack will fire in the direction the player is facing)

The update also addresses loadout issues during Arena Quests. You can check out the patch notes right here to see what’s what.

Hades Betrayal Available Now for Raiders of the Broken Planet

Independent studio MercurySteam today announced that Hades Betrayal, the third premium campaign for Raiders of the Broken Planet, is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Just like the previous campaigns, Alien Myths and Wardog Fury, Hades Betrayal is available to purchase as a stand-alone campaign for just €/$/£9.99.

Hades Betrayal includes four brand new epic story missions, playable in single-player, 4 player co-op or the intense 4 v 1 Antagonist mode, and a new exclusive character, the privateer Ayana. In this story arc, the Raiders will face the might of the Hades Division, the most powerful military organization in the galaxy led by General Krausher.

Harec and his Raiders must struggle to convince Ayana to betray the Hades Division and join the Raiders if they want to have a chance to prevent General Krausher from deploying a doomsday weapon that will tip the balance of power on the Broken Planet in his favor.

Steel Rats is a visceral and ground-breaking evolution of the 2.5D action arcade genre, fusing destructive, octane-fuelled motorbike combat and death-defying stunt gameplay, set in a visually stylised retro future world.

Will, step onto the unforgiving battlefield, establish a beachhead, and holdfast behind a turret-mounted machine gun. A brutal and unceasing onslaught of enemy forces will attempt to flank and eliminate Sgt. Will from every angle as he and a few surviving comrades rain hell upon anything that crosses their iron-sights.

Heavy Fire: Red Shadow will be released Summer 2018 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PS VR for PS4, and Steam for Windows PC.

These machines are located at random, and enable players to purchase random weaponry using resources scavenged from the map. Each Vending Machine will sell three items, one for each material type (Wood, Stone, Metal).

Vending Machines will cycle through each of the three items on a short timer. To switch items faster, hit the Vending Machine with your Pickaxe. There is no purchase limit to the items available. Check out the item and rarity prices:

– Rare (blue) version will cost 300 materials.
– Epic (purple) version will cost 400 materials.
– Legendary (gold) version will cost 500 materials.

Many weapons now have First Shot Accuracy, and as such, damage fall-off has been adjusted for weapons with First Shot Accuracy. Furthermore, The High Explosives game mode returns this week with High Explosives v2. You can see the patch notes in full for both Battle Royale and Save the World, right here.

Sea of Thieves’ New Update Fixes Ship Spawning Distance and More

Rare took Sea of Thieves down for some maintenance today to implement some much needed fixes. One of the most notable problems that has since been resolved is that of ship spawning distance. Ships will now respawn outside of visible view of the ship that sank them, which helps to dial down on reported grieving behavior.

It’s now no longer possible to accidentally teleport to your ship from the mermaid whilst holding treasure items, preventing players from inadvertently teleporting to their ships and leaving their loot behind. The voyage image on the captain’s table now displays the rank (promotion) banner in the top right corner, to keep in line with other areas of the game UI. Speaking of bounties, bounty Captains will no longer spawn multiple times.

On top of this, some performance improvements have been made, with more improvements incoming for all platforms. Rare acknowledge that there are other ongoing issues persisting, but will fix these at a later date based on priority. You can check out the patch notes and known issues, right here.

Far Cry 5’s First Event, Well Done, is Now Live

Far Cry 5’s first live event, titled “Well Done”, is now live across all platforms. Get in on the action while you can, this event will only be available for one week.

Hurk thinks you need flamethrowers and molotovs to light up the wildlife, can you prove him wrong? Finish the event by April 10th to claim your rewards for a job Well Done.

The event tasks you with killing 20 animals, which will nab you the Prestige flamethrower Flamebearer. Ubisoft has also stated that if the community can collectively hit 150,000 kills, participants will be rewarded with a special themed outfit.
