Vivendi to Sell its Entire Stake in Ubisoft

Today, Ubisoft announced that it has signed an agreement with Vivendi for its full exit from Ubisoft’s share capital, with the sale of all Vivendi’s 30,489,300 shares. The transaction includes an investment by two new long-term investors, the Relationship Investing arm of Ontario Teachers’ Public Equities division, and Tencent, a share buy-back by Ubisoft, an acquisition of shares by Guillemot Brothers SE and an Accelerated Bookbuilding with institutional investors.

Following the implementation of the transaction, Vivendi will no longer hold any shares in Ubisoft, and has committed not to acquire any shares in Ubisoft for 5 years. As part of the transaction, Ubisoft and Tencent have also announced today a strategic partnership that will significantly accelerate the reach of Ubisoft franchises in China in the coming years.

Yves Guillemot, CEO and Co-Founder, said: “The evolution in our shareholding is great news for Ubisoft. It was made possible thanks to the outstanding execution of our strategy and the decisive support of Ubisoft talents, players and shareholders. I would like to warmly thank them all. The investment from new long-term shareholders in Ubisoft demonstrates their trust in our future value creation potential, and Ubisoft’s share buy-back will be accretive to all shareholders. Finally, the new strategic partnership agreement we signed will enable Ubisoft to accelerate its development in China in the coming years and fully leverage a market with great potential.”

“Today, Ubisoft is fully reaping the benefits of our long-term strategy and the successful transformation towards a more recurring and profitable business. Ubisoft is perfectly positioned to capture the numerous video game growth drivers in the coming years. We are focused more than ever on delivering on our strategic plan.”

Well done to Ubisoft here, and an outcome I’m sure we can all agree is best all around. We’ll be sure to keep a close eye on this in due course.

Assassin’s Creed 2019 to be Set in Greece?

Before I begin, it’s important to take the following information with a pinch of salt, as this completely contradicts reports that Assassin’s Creed 2019 is to be set in Japan.

According to sources close to Comic Book, the next Assassin’s Creed title will take players to ancient Greece. Comic Book’s sources also accurately leaked Assassin’s Creed Empire (codename for Origins) months before Ubisoft officially unveiled the title.

Assassin’s Creed 2019 is said to have been in full production for a good while, and although ancient Greece is hardly as intriguing as feudal Japan, there’s a lot of rich history there for the series to make good use of. The game will supposedly release in 2019, and we assume it will follow the same gameplay formula as its immediate predecessor, though until Ubisoft formally reveal this, we’ll have to leave it to speculation.

Still, with that being said, and taking into account that Comic Book accurately outed Empire, this rumor has much more weight to it than any rumor before it.

Far Cry 5 Game Length Revealed

It’s no secret that Far Cry games tend to be quite lengthy, and Far Cry 5 is going to be no exception. Speaking to GameSpot, Executive producer Dan Hay suggests that the campaign will last north of 25 hours.

Hay also pointed out that internal testers often became distracted with side activities and objectives, such as fishing and hunting, which will only add to the overall length of the game.

In any case, that’s a healthy story serving to say the least. Far Cry 5 is set to touch down on March 27th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Everything we’ve seen so far, point to a very promising experience.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered Available Now

Today, Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered is an enhanced version of the 2014 release, which charts the story of Shay Patrick Cormac’s departure from the Assassin’s brotherhood to becoming a member of the Templar Order.

Created by Ubisoft Sofia, the studio that developed the original Assassin’s Creed Rogue, this remaster further enriches the franchise’s current-gen catalogue, and the game will shine in 4K on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X (and run 1080p on PS4 and Xbox One).

Thanks to higher resolution, improved environment rendering, visual effects and textures, Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered will offer an even more beautiful and immersive gaming experience that invites fans of the series and new players alike to discover or rediscover Shay’s adventures in 18th-century North America.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole DLC Now Available

Today Ubisoft and South Park Digital Studios announced that South Park: The Fractured But Whole From Dusk Till Casa Bonita DLC is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

From the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, From Dusk Till Casa Bonita DLC adds an all-new story campaign and superhero class to South Park: The Fractured But Whole. From Dusk Till Casa Bonita is available for the suggested retail price of €11.99.

Mysterion’s sister is in trouble. She’s fallen in with the Vamp Kids of South Park, who have descended upon Cartman’s favorite restaurant, Casa Bonita. Visit the famous family eatery and explore Black Bart’s Cave, watch the cliff divers, taste the magic of Mexico and defeat the brood of Vampires.

A Way Out Friend Pass Has No Usage Cap

It’s been announced today that the friend pass for A Way Out, which is a pass that enables anyone to join in on the action for free, can be used as many times as you like. During an AMA, Game Programmer Lucas. de Vries was asked if there was a cap in place, to which he responded:

You can play with as many people as you want, all you have to do is download the Friend Pass version, which anyone can download for free, after which they will need to wait until you invite them before they can play the game.

It was also revealed, however, that the joining player will not earn any achievements unless they own the game. Still, it’s an excellent concept and one I hope other developers utilize down the road.

CD Projekt Red Opens a New Division

CD PROJEKT RED, developers of Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher and GWENT, are to open a new division — CD PROJEKT RED Wrocław. Located in the city of Wrocław, south-western Poland, the new studio will join forces with CD PROJEKT RED Warsaw and Cracow, and bolster development of Cyberpunk 2077 — the upcoming futuristic AAA role-playing game.

“Wrocław is one of the biggest and most technologically advanced cities in Poland and a playing field for serious creative talent. I think the scope of our current and future projects, as well as the overall package we’re bringing in, will pull in people who were hesitant to move to Warsaw or Cracow.” — says Adam Kiciński, President and Joint CEO, CD PROJEKT Capital Group. “The founding dev team of CDPR Wrocław is already pretty stellar, but I still can’t wait to see what talents we’ll discover in new people along the way.” — Kiciński adds.

“We’re pretty hyped to be on the spearhead of this new office.” — says Paweł Zawodny, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED Wrocław. “We know Wrocław inside out and it’s an amazing place to make games. The team is strong, and I’m sure we have both the experience and the creative firepower to make Cyberpunk 2077 an even better game.” — Zawodny adds.

“Aside from their immense technological knowledge and artistic flair, the core team of CD PROJEKT RED Wrocław are just great people.” — says Adam Badowski, Game Director for Cyberpunk 2077 and Head of CD PROJEKT RED. “CD PROJEKT RED is not a typical game developer — we put gamers, creative freedom and quality games above making business. These guys not only share this approach, but, much like the rest of the team, think that this attitude is essential to creating epic video games.” — Badowski adds.

Consisting of 18 talented industry veterans, Wrocław-based developer, Strange New Things, will form the core of the new studio.

Super Rad Raygun is Celebrating His Independence

Independent game developer TRU FUN Entertainment, published by Rooster Teeth Games, first launched their retro-inspired 2D platformer, Super Rad Raygun, on November 8, 2016 on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux. After a friendly, mutual parting of ways, TRU FUN Entertainment now looks to expand its player-base by re-launching Super Rad Raygun on new marketplaces and platforms.

First of all, Super Rad Raygun will continue to be available on Steam—complete with achievements and leaderboards. Secondly, as of Tuesday, March 20, Super Rad Raygun is available DRM-free on itch.io and GameJolt.com. And finally, Super Rad Raygun will be making its way to Xbox One in late 2018!

It is the year 198X. Big hair is hot, and the war with the Soviets is colder than a refreshing glass of New Coke. RAD RAYGUN must travel the world fighting communist robots, and save the 1980′s by shooting his way through the decade in a totally fresh, expanded version of the original Xbox Live indie game.

Super Rad Raygun pits Rad against a whole new wave of deadly enemies and locations – from the Communist strongholds of the Far East to strategically insignificant islands off the South American coast. But chill out, because Rad has gnarly new weapons, upgrades, and a revamped gameplay engine to help him out.
