Final Fantasy XV Director Heads up a New Square Enix Studio

Square Enix has opened a new studio known as Luminous Productions, and Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata is heading it.

Square states that the studio will be responsible for “developing new AAA titles and bringing innovative games and other entertainment content to a global audience”, which is exciting enough in itself.

We’re not sure what projects are currently being worked on, but with Tabata at the helm, we can safely assume that these will be heavy hitting titles. Standby for more.

OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead Developer Diary Released

News regarding OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead remains thin on the ground, despite being unveiled four years ago. However, it appears as though the developer is gearing up for more of a structured drip feed, thanks to a few new videos being released earlier this year, as well as today’s developer diary.

This latest behind-the-scenes video takes an inside look at the creation of Georgetown, a key neighborhood in the game’s setting, Washington, D.C. You’ll learn more about how environmental storytelling is being used to capture the danger, suspense and tragedy of the rich universe established in Robert Kirkman’s original graphic novels.

OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead is a four-player co-op multiplayer FPS action game about surviving the threat of both the dead and the living by any means necessary. Each playable character, including the recently revealed Aidan, has their own special abilities, skill trees, squad roles, play styles and background stories. It’s up to players to band together on a variety of raids and missions using stealth tactics or brute force to secure supplies and survivors to strengthen their camp.

OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead is set to launch later this year on console and PC. Hopefully it plays better than Activision’s efforts, and indeed shapes up to be better than the TV show, which is rapidly running downhill.

Sea of Thieves Developer Update Video Released Plus Patch Notes

Sea of Thieves hasn’t exactly enjoyed the most smoothest of launches, but Rare nevertheless, are on the case. Keeping inline with their reputation to be as open as possible with their fans, Rare has released a new developer update video, featuring Studio Head Craig Duncan and Executive Producer Joe Neate. The pair discuss plans for the future, and current issues with the game. Sea for yourselves below, get it? Moving on…

Resident Evil 7 Gets an Xbox One X Trailer

FOX n FORESTS will take all the best and beloved elements of the 16-bit era and combines them with modern game design, a chiptunes soundtrack and a nostalgic look and feel.

Prison Architect Showcases the Upcoming Escape Mode DLC

Prison Architect’s upcoming Escape Mode DLC has been showcased by the developer today. To those out of the loop, Escape Mode is an alternative game mode, which was introduced to Introversion’s original PC version in October 2015.

It offers an additional challenge outside of the main game, as players take on the role of an inmate and attempt to escape a built prison, rather than run it. Initially, this mode was scrapped for console versions, until feedback pressured the developers to have it implemented.

This DLC has yet to receive a release date other than 2018, but as soon as we learn when it’s set to touch down, we’ll keep you in the loop. Until then, here’s how it’s shaping up.

Microsoft’s Upcoming Terms of Service Clamps Down on Offensive Language

Microsoft are clamping down on offensive language in their upcoming Terms of Service update, which is set to be put into effect on May 1st. Those found in violation of offensive language, will have their accounts suspended. This wont just effect Xbox, but other Microsoft services too. The new agreement states:

In the Code of Conduct section, we’ve clarified that use of offensive language and fraudulent activity is prohibited. We’ve also clarified that violation of the Code of Conduct through Xbox Services may result in suspensions or bans from participation in Xbox Services, including forfeiture of content licenses, Xbox Gold Membership time, and Microsoft account balances associated with the account.

It’s hardly groundbreaking, seeing as though offensive language is already frowned upon. What’s unclear here, however, is whether or not Microsoft will allow its users to have some friendly banter with each other, without the risk of being cut loose, and indeed how far-spread the punishment will go in regards to other Microsoft services.

It’s also unclear as to what this offensive language covers. Microsoft has yet to make a formal statement, but they need to be very clear and concise about these changes, well before May. After all, is it really fair to condemn (for example) a group of adult friends that are kicking back and having fun in the privacy of party chat?

Microsoft states that they are not capable of monitoring the entire service, but this doesn’t suggest that they wont be monitoring part of it. Nor does it suggest that you will have to be reported to be investigated. We’ll have to see how this one pans out, but for now, it’s nowhere near as transparent as it needs to be. Stay tuned for more.
