Rare have announced that Sea of Thieves will be getting a Scale Test, a series of them in fact, with the first starting on Friday 16th February. Here’s the specifics, straight from Rare:
Since the Closed Beta, our services team have been assessing their plans for launch to ensure the game stands up to the amount of interest we’re expecting to see. As a result of the Closed Beta, we are planning on running a couple of Scale Tests between now and launch, with the first of these beginning on Friday, February 16th at 10am GMT (2am PST) and ending on Sunday, February 18th at 10am GMT (2am PST).
The goal of this is to test a lot of the work we’ve done since the Closed Beta, and to try and hit a higher concurrent players number than we’ve ever seen before.
The scale test is open to Xbox Insiders and those who had access to the Closed Beta. If you are an Xbox Insider and want to take part, you can navigate to the Insider Hub on your dash, and install the Sea of Thieves Scale Test build.
This will purposefully be a similar feature set to the Closed Beta, again restricted to the Gold Hoarders trading company & accompanying Voyages. The purpose of this test is to drive scale and test issues at a high scale of player concurrency. We will not be seeking feedback on the game experience itself.
Rare have also confirmed that another Beta will run just before launch. This could be an open beta, as discovered via a recent datamine.
We do plan on running another beta closer to the launch of the game, where players will get a taste of the wider Sea of Thieves experience, but for now our focus is on our scale testing plans. We will have more to share on that as we get closer to launch.
So there you have it, more pirate goodness coming your way. Be sure to stay tuned and as soon as we learn of anything else, we’ll keep you in the loop.
